InSite

The Largest European
Live Clinical Data Network

Priority nr. 1 - Data Protection

InSite has been conceptualised during the EHR4CR European research project in cooperation with several privacy, ethics and IT security experts, as such adhering to the principle of privacy and security by design and default.

Furthermore, Custodix, the company behind InSite, has over 15 years of experience in the data privacy sector, acting as trusted third party for health data re-use in several countries.

Fundamental to the functionality of the InSite clinical platform is the fact that NO individual patient data leaves the hospital environment. The only information that leaves the hospital is an aggregated patient count which entails no privacy risk.

In short:
  • No personal data (of patients) is sent, stored on or processed by the central platform.
  • All sensitive processes run inside the hospital, under full control of the hospital.
  • InSite supports pseudonymisation of the data in the local hospital data warehouse.
  • InSite packs privacy enhancing technology such as "small cells restriction", that can be configured by hospitals to match their local privacy policies.

InSite has been awarded with the Quality Seal for Research Platforms (QS4RP) obtained from the European Institute for Innovation through Health Data (i~HD) in March 2017.

The European Institute for Innovation through Health Data (i~HD) has developed a Quality Seal for Research Platforms (QS4RP) in order to provide assurance to the market, especially to healthcare organisations, research centres and research sponsors, that ICT products and services, used to conduct research analyses using electronic health record (EHR) information, do so in secure ways that protect data privacy.
